March 2021- Back in the Studio

Country Music Cowboy Hat and Guitar

Howdy folks …

Time for my March 2021 blog!

So things have been progressing slowly.  Am back in the recording studio with Mr. Rick Salt.  And yes following COVID protocols all the way.  So far we have laid down tracks for two songs, Bobcat Blues and My Love.

Bobcat Blues is a story about a fella that cheated on his girl and is trying to worm his way back into her life saying how sorry he is for everything.  And her response to his wrangling’s.  She is basically telling him to hit the road in no uncertain terms.  At this moment Rick and I are working to find a female artist to do the main vocals which is turning out to be more difficult that what we had imagined.  My friend, Carla Olive has helped and we hope we have found someone to do this project.

This song came to me some years ago as I was driving down Douglas Street on my way to work.  By the time I had driven about 10 blocks I pretty much had the entire song in my head.  There is a Bank of Nova Scotia on one of the main intersections so I pulled into their parking lot, grabbed a pad of paper from the back of my truck and wrote everything down.  Lucky I could remember everything.  LOL.  Now I have a recorder that I carry everywhere.

I have found that songs come to me at any time.  Driving my truck, sleeping, noodling on my guitar or jamming with others.  Have had a couple of very emotional songs come to me when I am camping in the woods.  Must be real close to the universe when in the woods I guess.

My Love is a song that came to me as I was noodling in my big easy chair, enjoying my morning mug of coffee.  Carla always says that this is the best time for creativity so roll with it.  I was simply playing with some chord progressions and then the words started falling out of the universe and PRESTO!!!  A new song.  This is a story about love at first sight and the excitement of this new love.  It is done in a kinda doo-wop format.  I know.  Not country?  Gotta do what you gotta do.  This is the music style that my much, much older sisters listened to when they were teenagers.  Much older.  LOL

The creation of music and I imagine other forms of art do not come to you in your preferred genre such as country music.  To date I have written close to 30 songs from country to sad ol’ country to wedding songs to ballads to doo-wop to waltz’s to teenie bopper tunes.  It’s just music and hopefully someone will enjoy them.

Next in line is my song Little Cowboy.  Got the video I want to do in conjunction with the song all stored in my head.  This is going to be fun.

Talk to you again at the end of April.

Take good care of each other and stay safe.
