John Rewers (aka JR)
singer, guitar, songwriter

John is an avid fan of the Old Country music styles from the mid 1900’s.

He grew up in a home full of music and dance inspired by a mother who played piano and sang.

During that time he was exposed to great country music but was drawn away by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones during the 60’s and 70’s.

In the 1990’s, Mr. Dwight Yoakam brought him back into the Country Music fold were his heart has been ever since.  In 2010, John found his life’s passion which is the playing and singing those old country classics.  There’s no stopping him now….

Allan Bagelman
guitar, banjitar, vocals

Al bought his first electric guitar in 1962.

In the 70’s, Al trained & worked as a recording and concert sound engineer and was fortunate to have toured and worked with some of the biggest recording artists of that time.

Today Al continues playing guitar and loves playing with friends and jamming every chance he gets.

Doug Thorsteinson
bass, guitar, mandolin, vocals

Doug has been playing bass guitar for over forty years.

He has had the good fortune of playing with, or opening for, some of the country music’s biggest acts and toured extensively throughout North America for many years.

Doug enjoys the more laid-back lifestyle that Victoria offers and is grateful to continue playing music with some great musicians that continually challenge him to be the best that he can be.

Al got thrown in the hot seat on the drums and has been hooked on the drums ever since. Al lives to play drums and watching him play you can see he loves it!

SPECIAL GUESTS

From time to time we do have some wonderful Special Guests who’s style, great voices and musicianship fit like a cowboys boot equally with our mutual love for Country & Western Music.

Carla Olive
Guitar, piano, vocals

Singer/Songwriter and Recording Artist, Carla Olive presents her dynamic musical abilities in pop rock riffs and rhythms with interesting melody lines.

Her music speaks with dynamics and feel, as her lyrics challenge the heart and mind… passionate about social issues, and honest in difficulties of the heart.
In pursuit of having her music heard, Carla performs regularly in a handful of venues, and continues to pursue new ones; has become an official ‘Causeway Busker’; and hosts her own weekly all-ages open mic. With a band gig ahead, she will be fronting a rock trio once again – debuting her ‘rock-side’ to the city of Victoria.

Later this year, she will finally release an EP she recorded with her rock trio in Calgary before she moved to Victoria last May. Honing her craft and presenting her original rock show playing lead guitar, ‘The Carla Olive Trio’ performed a regular gig at mainstream rock club Morgan’s On 17th, along with multiple venues in Calgary.

With over 20 years on the music scene, she has produced five albums, performed countless shows and venues, backed up some great artists, and continues to write and record. Some highlights of her career are performing Vans Warped Tour in Calgary; receiving a recording grant from Rawlco; performing on the VIA RAIL as an ‘Artist On Board’ to attend Canadian Music Week; and an interview with Baba on CKUA.

Brad Hawkes
Percussion

Brad Hawkes began playing a drum kit in 1964 and in the early ’70s started playing congas in coffee houses.

Brad plays both percussion (including cajon, conga and djembe) and drum kit. He has recorded on over 50 songwriter’s CDs. Brad plays many styles of music including country, jazz, blues, folk, roots, bluegrass, pop, rock, and latin.

“In terms of rhythm, Brad Hawkes is like a machine. But it’s the human side of his percussion the character, style, variety, and sensitivity of it – that carefully enhances the music of any artist lucky enough to benefit from Brad’s accompaniment.” James Kasper, Mighty Speck Records
