So just the other nite I’m doing my “get ready for bed” thing, putting my computer to sleep when I noticed a message from the BCCMA, via Michelle, stating that I have been nominated for the GAYLORD WOOD TRADITIONAL COUNTRY award for 2025…. Absolutely shocked to read the words. My heart started racing as I told my wife of this development. Couldn’t sleep that night.
The next day, I wanted to tell the world of this incredible opportunity that has been given to me. So I told my bass player, Doug Thorsteinson; my lead guitarist, Gary Brewer; and one of my best buddies, who has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my music journey and dreams.
It took a day to come down off the high to a place where I remembered that the email stated to keep this quiet until the official notice came from the BCCMA headquarters. So back to everybody to say, hush hush, sweet Charlotte. LOL.
Now I sit here having received further notice that this nomination is confirmed, and I am flooded with emotions — from joy, to excitement, to humility, to tears. My heart is racing once again. Now back to the computer to tell the world.
I am forever grateful to all of those in my life who have helped me along my journey to get to this place. I write this in disbelief of how far I have come since my first appearance on stage eight years ago at a local open mic.
I started my musical journey at the age of 61 with a dream of grand things and an unwavering belief in my future possibilities.
Believe in the universe. Believe in possibilities. Never say you are too old to accomplish your dreams.
And as my friend, John Lilbun says…. “Pick a horse, climb up in the saddle and follow the four winds.”
