MY HERO – WILLIE NELSON

MY HERO

Yes, my hero, Willie Nelson will be performing in Vancouver BC. Finally allowed across our borders to play his incredible homespun music. As soon I found out about this event, I made plans to attend this show which was about five days after the Merritt Mountain Music Festival. Two birds, one trip.

With five days to lollygag around, we planed to visit some friends up in Kelowna. Now Kelowna is home to some of the finest golf courses in BC and both my wife and I are avid golfers.

My wife’s favorite being Gallager’s Canyon. We traveled up to Gallagher’s early in the morning, enjoyed a nice breakfast then went to the pro shop to pay for our rounds and golf cart. Now… to fetch our clubs from the truck.

My wife walked on ahead of me, and I followed a hundred yards behind in a golf cart. I looked up see her waving frantically pointing at a long black limo. Thought she had lost her mind. As I drove toward the parking lot, a fella came walking directly towards me, so I slowed down to see what he wanted. He simply put out his hand and said “Hi, I’m Willie Nelson”. Now I can’t write down what my response was… but I immediately got out of the cart and greeted him. He gave me some of his time to have a quick chat and I found him to be a kind and gentle man. He was also gracious enough to take a picture with us. This turned out to be the front page of our Christmas card that year.

They say that you might be disappointed when you meet your hero, but that was not the case for me.

Perhaps, Willie and I may meet again, but this time to talk and play some music. What a treasure that would be.
